A forma mais simples de circulação é o movimento de corrente citoplasmática ou o movimento de líquidos celulares por difusão.&lt;br /&gt;Nos animais mais simples e aquáticos ( como os celenterados, platelmitas e os nematelmintas), não existe um verdadeiro sistema circulatório. Nestes animais, todas as células são relativamente próximas do meio externo, pelo que as trocas de substâncias se realizam por difusão simples.&lt;br /&gt;Nos animais mais complexos, existe um sistema circulatório, constituído pelos seguintes elementos:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;color:#ccffff;"&gt;um fluido circulante, como por exemplo, o sangue; Como não há distinção entre o sangue e a linfa, o líquido de transporte é denominado de hemolinfa. A hemolinfa é bombeada por um coração tubular, ao longo de vasos até aos tecidos. Ao chegar aos tecidos, abandona os vasos e passa para um sistema de cavidades, designadas por lacunas, que no seu conjunto formam o hemocélio. No hemocélio, a hemolinfa entra em contacto com as células. Fornecendo-lhes nutrientes e recebendo produtos de excreção; &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ccccff;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;O sangue flui muito mais lentamente do que num sistema circulatório fechado.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br Nos vertebrados que têm o coração tetracavitário isto não acontece.
